Recently I needed to make myself a new work area for my pen making. Some of you may have followed this on my main posts. I’ve decided to put a bit more information up here and a few extra photos of the process.
First off I decided on the size I wanted and then cut up the wood to make the legs.
These were glued and screwed together.
Next I added the cross members for the length. I left a gap on the right of the bench as I was going to add some draws in here.
I made the top out of two pieces of 18mm ply that I glued together. This makes the top nice and solid and it will be able to take a bit of punishment over it’s life. Once the top was on and the extra shelf installed, I cut out the bits for the draws.
The draws were assembled and mounted onto slides. I also installed a vice to the bench front as well. I also went and put plugs over all the screw holes. I think it gives it a nicer finished look.
Once I had it all built I moved it outside and gave it a few coats of lacquer to give it a bit of protection.
Once that was all done everything was put together and it was moved into it’s final place.
Already made a few pens on it. The orange draws are from Officeworks. I made some inserts for them and they’re great for hold pen kits.
